St. Mark's School for the Deaf in Bwanda/Masaka, Uganda

For deaf people or people with a hearing impairment, the possibilities of communication and thus the educational opportunities are very limited in Uganda. By offering education, the St. Mark School for the Deaf in Bwanda/Masaka is trying to take this important step towards improving living conditions.

St. Mark includes a kindergarten where all new children have the opportunity to learn the local sign language. Furthermore, a school up to grade 7 is part of the complex. The children and young people are accommodated in an affiliated boarding school. Many of the staff are also deaf.

bezev has been working with the St. Mark School for the Deaf since 2014 and supports it primarily within the framework of the "weltwärts" voluntary service programme.
